Cabo San Lucas's Feast Day Starts at the Parish at 5 a.m., Long Before the Fiestas Tradicionales Stage Lights Up

October 15, 2026

"Las sedes aún estamos con confirmar," Cabo San Lucas delegada Karina de la O told El Sudcaliforniano on October 6. She said the town was still negotiating to get the venues maintained and to build the stage for the festivities honoring its patron saint.

That was ten days before opening night. The same article had already set times and places for something else: a 5:00 a.m. serenade at the Parroquia de San Lucas Evangelista, the saint's image heading out onto the bay at 5:30, and a noon Mass.

The 2026 Fiestas Tradicionales run October 16 through 20 under the motto "Historia y tradición que nos une." The program's details were settled in an uneven order. The oldest parts of the celebration, the ones rooted in downtown, the marina and the water, came with fixed times. The newer stage spectacle is still waiting on logistics.

The Nights Have Names but No Address Yet

The lineup was announced early and in full. El Sudcaliforniano's cartelera report lists five headline nights:

Night Headliners
Friday, October 16 Ingrid Contreras and Los Perdidos de Sinaloa
Saturday, October 17 Banda MS
Sunday, October 18 Alfredo Olivas
Monday, October 19 Los Karkik's
Tuesday, October 20 Alemán, Netón Vega and Luis R. Conríquez

Cabo Mil reported the same lineup and said its station, 96.3 FM, will broadcast live from the event.

The logistics are another matter. On October 1, the Ayuntamiento de Los Cabos said the venue and schedule would be announced later. Its October 6 coordination release said a map showing how the sites will be laid out was still being prepared, and it included no street closures or traffic advisories.

Last year offers a reference point but no guarantee. In 2025, according to El Sudcaliforniano, the free music program took place at the Teatro del Pueblo in Plaza San Lucas, on the road to San José del Cabo. It opened at 9:00 p.m., with rides and food stands nearby. Whether 2026 returns to that site, keeps entry free or keeps the same start time had not been confirmed in any reporting we reviewed through October 12.

Sunday, October 18, From Dark to Midnight

The feast of San Lucas Evangelista falls on a Sunday this year. The published program fills almost every hour of it, and most of the morning happens within walking distance of Plaza Amelia Wilkes and the marina.

  1. 5:00 a.m. Mañanitas, the traditional dawn serenade to the patron saint, at the Parroquia de San Lucas Evangelista, across from Plaza Amelia Wilkes downtown.
  2. 5:30 a.m. The saint's image is carried out onto the Bay of Cabo San Lucas.
  3. 6:15 to 6:40 a.m. Check-in at the athletes' transition zone for the Acuatlón Reto El Médano, on Playa El Médano by Hotel Breathless Cabo.
  4. 7:00 a.m. The acuatlón starts on Playa El Médano by The Hungry Shark.
  5. Daytime. San Lucas Fest's surf contests continue at Playa El Tule, the state calendar lists the Baja Cantina Kids fishing tournament, and a cabalgata, or traditional horseback procession, rides toward the Lienzo Charro.
  6. 12:00 p.m. Official Mass at the parish, led by Bishop Miguel Ángel Espinoza Garza.
  7. Evening. Alfredo Olivas headlines the night's concert, at a venue still to be announced.

The first item on the list is also the oldest, and it sets the morning's geography. The bay procession and the acuatlón share the same stretch of water within about an hour and a half of each other.

Why the Saint Goes Out to the Arch

The 2026 program gives a time for the bay procession but no boarding point. Reports from recent years show how it usually works.

In 2022, Radio Activo BCS described mañanitas at 5:00 a.m. in the central church. Attendees then walked the image to the pier and took it out by boat, with music, dancing and prayers for people who work at sea or have suffered there, before bringing it back to the church.

In 2024, Cabo Visión reported that residents and municipal staff gathered at the parish and then walked to La Marina, where the faithful carried the image by boat to the Arch.

In 2025, Las Periodistas reported that local boats escorted the image around the bay, and that officials and worshippers laid a floral offering in front of the Arch.

The route is consistent across those years: parish, then the waterfront, then the bay, then El Arco. Visitors know the Arch as the place on the postcard. For one morning a year, it is where the town honors its patron. None of these reports, and nothing published for 2026, says where people on shore can watch, so the marina walk at first light is the most reasonable guess rather than an official viewing spot.

Playa El Médano Is Already Booked at 7

An hour and a half after the image heads out, the second edition of the Acuatlón Reto El Médano starts on the same bay. It is organized by AldemarTri Team Los Cabos with the endorsement of the Instituto del Deporte de Los Cabos. According to the official convocatoria, the course is a 600-meter swim, a 5-kilometer run and another 600-meter swim, with individual and relay categories.

The registration page listed fees of $999 for individuals and $1,799 for relay teams, and it showed registration as closed when checked. If you have a regular Sunday swim or beach walk at the marina end of Médano, expect athletes in the transition zone by Breathless from 6:15 a.m. and swimmers in the water from 7:00.

The Weekend Spreads to the Edges of Town

The concerts may end up in one place, but the rest of the weekend's program is spread out, and every confirmed piece of it has a location.

  • Playa El Tule, October 17–18. San Lucas Fest is a free surf gathering in Los Cangrejos II y III with longboard, shortboard and boogieboard contests. The Gringo Gazette event listing names Club de Surf Monumentos, Tatéi Haramara and the Ayuntamiento de Los Cabos as organizers and partners. It does not give heat times or entry details.
  • The Taste, Saturday, October 17. A day of horse racing and other equestrian events.
  • La Ramadita to the Lienzo Charro, Sunday, October 18. El Sudcaliforniano's cultural preview says the cabalgata leaves from the ranches of the La Ramadita subdelegación. The same paper's lineup story names Rancho Las Tres Hermanas as the starting point. Neither gives a departure time.
  • Artisans and Indigenous food showcases. "Vamos a tener a todos los pueblos originarios para que den una muestra gastronómica," de la O told El Sudcaliforniano, meaning Indigenous communities will present their food alongside regional artisans selling their work. No location or hours have been announced.
  • Professional boxing, October 24. The cultural program ends October 20, but the fiestas add one more event four days later.

The run-up has already started. Tribuna reported that the 2026 queen's election and coronation was scheduled for October 11 at 7:00 p.m. in Plaza Pública León Cota Collins.

Planning Around What's Confirmed

As of October 12, the times and places you can rely on are the 5:00 a.m. mañanitas, the 5:30 a.m. bay procession, the 7:00 a.m. acuatlón start, the El Tule surf weekend, Saturday's races at the Taste and the noon Mass. Still unannounced: the concert venue, whether entry is free, nightly start times, any road closures, and the cabalgata's departure time. The Ayuntamiento's site map is the document that should settle most of those questions once it is published.

For a first fiestas, Sunday morning is the part to plan around: be in front of the parish on Plaza Amelia Wilkes before 5:00 a.m., then walk toward the marina as the boats head out to the Arch.

At Robyn & Co, we follow Cabo San Lucas's calendar from the parish on Plaza Amelia Wilkes to the Lienzo Charro, including the downtown and marina streets that fill before dawn on October 18. If you're thinking about a home within walking distance of Plaza Amelia Wilkes and the marina, schedule a complimentary concierge consultation and we'll walk you through that route from the parish to the waterfront.
